Fine chemicals are used in the manufacture of specialty products such as pharmaceuticals, detergents, adhesives, sealants, coatings and electronics goods. Produced in lower volumes than process chemicals, they tend to have a higher added value. However, this sector is also under increased competitive and environmental pressures. Manufacturers are challenged to constantly innovate in the search for environmentally cleaner reactions and smart solutions to highly specialised problems. Technologies can play a key role in meeting these challenges.
